The BGSU film program – founded in the 1970s – has grown into one of the most hands-on, flexible programs in the country. Our curriculum lets you tailor your degree to your creative interests. You’ll have the freedom to explore directing, screenwriting, editing, producing and more.

Experienced faculty helps you produce work that reflects your unique vision. Film majors gain real-world skills and build a professional portfolio through a wide range of production opportunities, student organizations, coursework, internships and original projects.

    • Lead or participate in senior capstone productions that premiere at BGSU.
    • Student organizations are a great way to practice your craft. BG Reel organizes the 48 Hour Film Competitions and hosts the BG Film and Media Festival. BG on Screen provides a hub for creating student-led productions. Film Appreciation Club enriches campus film culture by screening a variety of film genres.
    • The Department of Theatre and Film hires student workers. WBGU, our nationally recognized PBS affiliate, also offers paid and unpaid internships.
  • Study abroad. Spend a semester at the renowned University of Wales in Aberystwyth through BGSU’s exchange program with one of the UK’s top film and media departments.
  • So many options. BGSU film majors gain experience in all aspects of production and are prepared for careers as writers, producers, screenwriters, editors, directors, sound designers and more. They can work in television, journalism, festival organization, distribution and film preservation.
